It could have been me. I could have been the guy caught up in drugs and violence with no immediate future but one
of hardship and pain. That could have been me but it's not! When I began attending the RICH program back in the third grade, changes were made in my life. No longer was I the student consistently in
trouble. I attribute these changes to the RICH principle "I Matter." This simple phrase allowed me to overcome obstacles that were in my way. It no longer mattered what my peers and others were
doing. I had a goal in mind and believing that I mattered help me to achieve my goal. To this day "I Matter" is helping me to achieve my goals.
Today I come back to the RICH program because I want for someone else to be able to say along with me "I'm still strong, I'm still
standing." I desire to see the students of today live their lives to the fullest. I tire of hearing of the negative. By my continued participation in the RICH program, I hope to properly nurture the
leaders of tomorrow. I want them to be able to say "I matter" with pride knowing that whatever obstacles come across their way, they will stay strong and they will keep standing.
